I was born in San Francisco in 1941. I grew up there and on the San Francisco peninsula. I went to college at Sacramento State College, graduating with a bachelor's degree in economics in 1963. I then went to law school at Boalt Hall, the law school at the University of California in Berkeley, graduating in 1966. I was admitted to the practice of law in California in 1966, and then and later, to practice before a number of federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
From 1966 through most of 1970 I was a Deputy District Attorney for the County of Sacramento. Since then I have been in private practice in Sacramento, first in a small partnership, and then by myself.
Over the years my practice has been diverse, and has included, in no particular order, real estate and business, including litigation (lawsuits) involving those areas, and involving personal injury, wrongful death, and medical malpractice claims, workers' compensation, bankruptcy, family law, wills, trusts, probate, and criminal law. The specifics regarding my practice areas can be seen on the page about my Practice Areas.
